the accident. you're squeezing by to the right to get by. this is again a live look from our sky 9. looks like it may be moving o. some good news here. you're watching it live. looks like some of the activity is still sitting right there on the right shoulder. beltway outer loop just reopened within the last few seconds. let's take a look at the beltway outer loop. this is what it looks like at route 29. that's going to be one long slow lineup. now over to virginia on the northbound side of 95. this is incident free close into springfield. delays forming leaving route 644. i'll be back with more traffic at 6:12. at the top of the hour, we're following breaking news out of the middle east. protests at a third u.s. embassy this morning. >> people in the capital of yemen stormed the american embassy there this morning. this follows protests yesterday in libya and in egypt. kristin fisher is live in our satellite center with more on some deadly violence. kristin? >> reporter: right now a mass

protest under way right outside the u.s. embassy in yemen's capital. so far it has not turned violent. no reports of any injuries but we've all seen how quickly that can change after what happened outside the u.s. consulate in libya just two days ago. i want you to take a look at this video. it's just come in within the last hour. protesters are on the embassy grounds. you can see that. they're trying to jump over the fence but so far they have not been able to actually enter the building that houses the diplomatic offices. what they have done is removed the embassy sign on the outer wall and they've taken down the u.s. flag and burned it. but again so far no reports of any injuries. according to the yemen times, these protesters say they will not leave until the american who made the anti-islam film is executed. that film also appeared to be the catalyst for those similar protests in egypt and libya, but now the f.b.i. is investigating the possibility that the deadly assault on the u.s. consulate in libya was a planned

terrorist attack intended to mark the anniversary of 9/11. here is secretary of state senator clinton followed by president obama. >> how could this happen in a country we helped liberate, in a city we helped save. >> make no mistake. we will work with the libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people. >> my name is chris stevens, and i'm the new u.s. ambassador to libya. >> reporter: the obama administration has started the search for the people who killed ambassador stevens and the three other state department officers killed in tuesday's attack. they're bringing in the marines, unmanned drones and two warships armed with cruise missiles. they're taking position just off the libyan coast. the situation escalating rapidly. i will be monitoring it throughout the next half-hour and bring you an update at 6:30. >> we'll see you then, kristin live in our satellite center this morning. the film behind all of

these protests is called "innocence of muslims." it's an amateur movie made in california. it portrays the prophet muhammad as a fool and has sexually explicit situations in it. it was posted on july 1. two months later it was aired on an egyptian talk show. the film maker goes by the fake name sam bacile. steve cline was a consultant on the film and talked to cbs about his role. >> i could not have done a better job than what i've done to point out to the people of the world and the vast majority of the muslims just how dangerous these people are. people have asked me, do i have blood on my hands? no, i don't. the blood is on their hands, not mine. >> youtube has pulled clips of this movie from its site in egypt and libya. we'll continue to follow that part of the story as well. our coverage of this story continues on wusa9.com. you can see a foe foe gal --

howard here with your weather first. noontime temps mid-70s. highs 82, maybe 83 with a 5:00 p.m. temperature of a nice 80. on the outer loop of the beltway right before georgia avenue, a multivehicle accident has been cleared, but look at what it left for you early in the morning. oh, my goodness. it's three miles or more on the outer loop westbound 495. of course the north side of town through silver spring, boy, oh boy, that is really tough. but at least the lanes are open. i'll keep you posted on that situation again coming up in my next report at 6:18. but first, the first year for a teenage driver is the most dangerous on the roads. they're not only inexperienced but also distracted by cell

morning. nasa administrator charles bolden will be there. so will michael collins, armstrong's crew mate on the apollo 11 mission. armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. he died back on august 25th. a follow-up this morning to our story on toll cheaters in maryland. we told you yesterday that maryland sends notices to people who go through ez pass lanes without a transponder, but the state can't go after those people. now a state delegate in annapolis wants to create a hall of shame, a listing of people who owe thousands in outstanding fines. democrat james malone wants to change state law so maryland can go after those toll cheaters. he'll bring up a new bill next year. montgomery county is no longer charging late fees for people who don't pay speed camera or red light camera tickets. the washington examiner reports a judge ruled the fees may violate the state's constitution. that's because the county doesn't charge the same late

fee as other cities and counties. the late fees brought in an extra $1.8 million last year. another beaver infected with rabies went on the attack in fairfax county. a group of kids were at the hidden pond nature center saturday when a beaver went after them. an animal control officer shot the animal before it bit anyone. last week an 83-year-old woman was bitten by a rabid beaver while swimming in lake barcroft. animal control authorities tracked down and killed several beavers. they all tested positive for rabies. we asked authorities why is this a growing problem. >> it's too soon to make that kind of assessment or statement that something is going on but certainly when these types of things happen, we do take a look and make note of them. >> on sunday a rabid raccoon turned up in the same neighborhood. police believe the infected raccoons are biting the beavers and they're warning everyone to be careful and keep an eye on your pet. coming up on 6:37, jessica

doyle is here with another your money report. >> she says more and more of us have health insurance these days. why is that? >> more people are able to actually go to the doctor and pay for it using health insurance. that's because the number of uninsured americans has declined for the first time in four years. the census bureau says more than 260 million people have some sort of health care coverage in 2011. that's up four million from the year before and that means more than 84% of americans are now insured. a couple of reasons why here. more health insurance from the government, more people are getting that. and more young adults are insured because of the 2010 affordable care act. the most fattening item at mcdonald's is not the big mac, not even close. it's the big breakfast with hot cakes and large biscuit, over 1100 calories. that's about twice the big mac and that will be obvious in the future. mcdonald's will start posting calorie information on all of its menus starting monday.

a new regulation could force all fast food chains to post calories by next year. some people really hate pennies and a business owner in vermont hates beenies -- pennies so much, he's banning them. prices haven't changed. you'll still find tags that say 99 or the like but power play sports is rounding the change to the nearest nickel in the customer's favor. the owner says he hopes the u.s. government will follow his and canada's lead when it comes to dumping the penny. it costs two and a half times more to produce the penny than it's actually worth. >> i know. it's funny that it's still kicking around. >> inflation. if you got rid of it, you would see 4% inflation like that. people would raise their prices. >> interesting. >> and gas is one of those big things. >> it's not like they're going to round it down, you know. >> thanks, jess. >> we want to update ow a breaking news story -- on a breaking news story. >> u.s. embassy in germany has been evacuated because of an envelope that's arrived there. >> we do know that embassies

sky 9. this is the beltway in silver spring. they were looking for another accident as well on the outer loop at university boulevard. i don't think they found anything. if they did, it might be on the shoulder but again very, very tough situation here on the beltway. let's also take a live look at 270 southbound. you have off and on delays route 85 toward 109 and 121. then a little bit more leaving falls road to the spur. and back to our graphics. interesting situation. marc camden 841, a tree fell across the track so it terminates in greenbelt. you'll transfer to 843. eight going to add at least 30 minutes to your ride on the marc camden line. i'll be back in a few minutes with more on the situation on the outer loop. but before i go, i have a commuter alert. a new law enforcing something you should already know. starting october 1 in maryland, it will be state law that you must come to a complete stop when the traffic light is out. we all dealt with this after the derecho in june where it

was every driver for himself at a dark intersection. starting october 1, when you come to a light that's out, people driving in every direction must stop. you have to yield to pedestrians and you must stay stopped till it's safe to go through the intersection. if you break the law, you'll be hit with a $90 ticket and two points on your license. if you cause an accident, it will be $130 and i believe three points. i feel like a broken record. every time the lights are out i say treat it as a four-way stop. it's now a law. >> it seems like something that would have been law for years. >> exactly. he knows the law and he also knows weather. >> it's going to be another really nice day. we'll have good weather right through the weekend. a slight chance for a shower friday night, early saturday. other than that, rain chances stay low till early next week. our bus stop forecast, we're watching a patch or two of fog north and west of d.c. this morning. temps in the 50s to low 60s out there. so it's just a few degrees warmer than it has been. sun coming up here in just a

east coast is quiet. front west of chicago going to head toward them with rain today. traveling through chicago, there may be some delays from that. you'll notice the cloudiness coming up through the south through the tennessee valley. that's increased moisture. those clouds, a few of them anyway will be around here tomorrow. today a relatively quiet day. a patch of fog this morning. a shower toward norfolk virginia beach late this afternoon. we may see a sprinkle in the mountain. quiet again with the return of patchy fog. then on friday, can't rule out some isolated showers far west in the afternoon and also on the eastern shore. but we're really going to have to wait for this front. the thing about this front, it's going to put some showers down in the mountains friday evening. as it comes across the mountains, not a lot of moisture to work w. the front comes through generally dry saturday morning. so saturday ends up being a nice, sunny day with temperatures also in the upper 70s to near 80. we've been in good shape here this week. today no exception, 83. tonight about 64 in town with some 50s north and west, a patch of fog.
